Wergelandshaugen –  invites professional artists to apply for Artist in
Residence (WHAiR) 2024.

Residencies are for two periods, Spring and Autumn. Artists in all fields will be considered, both solo
and group projects. A residency at WH AiR provides the opportunity for a concentrated period to research and develop
professional practice. Being in the same environment as other artists encourages active discussion of
creative working practices and dissemination.
Residencies are organized in two periods of 3 months, Spring (February to May) and Autumn (September
to December). The theme for the periodes of residency 2023 is Against the current.

Accommodation is provided in small fully-fitted individual or family cabins (see overview). Working
area is a large 100m2 studio, flexible for differing artistic activities, as well as a small workshop
equipped with a kiln.
The cost is NOK 3000 per month per person and the artist is required to finance travel, materials and other expenses such as electricity for using kiln and cleaning.

Artists are required to hold minimum two “Open Studio” public presentations. Other studio visits and
forms of dissemination will be encouraged. Artists are required to hold a presentation and exhibition
at the end of the residency. They will be honored with a exhibition fee of NOK 4000.

Applications must contain:
 CV
 Letter of motivation (700 letters)
 Plan for residence period / Project description. Solo or group application (100 letters)
 Visual documentation of projects (max. 20 slides in one PDF presentation – max 5MB)

The jury’s decision will be based on an evaluation of the CV, proposed project, activities and
other aims for the residency.
The jury’s decision is final

Artists in residency are required to sign a contract containing:
Use of facilities at WH AiR
Open Studio – presentation/discussion/ lecture/ exhibition to public fora
Synthesis of work produced during residency
Reflections form the residency, e.g., working situation and input for further development of WHAiR.
Payment of NOK 3000 at the time of contract signing.
An agreement that documentation from residency can be used by Wergelandshaugen.

Sales of work during residency have a 40% commission. This will be used for Wergelandshaugen’s

fund for artists.
The residency (accommodation and studio) is solely for the artists approved by the jury.
